Overview
In accordance with the federal Deaths in Custody Reporting Act (DICRA) of 2000, the Missouri SAC has been asked by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), to collect data on deaths of persons in the custody of law enforcement agencies as well as deaths resulting from lethal force by law enforcement officers. Missouri law enforcement agencies voluntarily submit reports of such deaths on a quarterly basis to the Missouri SAC and, in turn, the Missouri SAC provides these data to BJS.
