  • Flash Flooding Turns Deadly In Southern Missouri


    Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, would like to remind the public that flooding or flash flooding continues to affect safety on the roadways. Flash flooding, due to the recent heavy rains, can be expected over the next few days and has proven to be extremely dangerous and even fatal.

  • Missouri State Highway Patrol’s New Online Tool Will Provide Most Criminal History Checks In Seconds

  • Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announced today the launch of a Web site that will allow the public to obtain name-based open record criminal background checks in a matter of seconds. Previously, record check requests that were mailed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol took two to four weeks to complete.

  • Missouri Traffic Fatalities Reach Record Low


  • For the fifth year in a row, Missouri can celebrate a reduction in the number of traffic fatalities! Originally, the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety set a goal of less than 1,000 fatalities by 2008. We were pleased when we met that goal a year early in 2007, with 992 fatalities. A new goal of less than 850 traffic crash deaths was set for 2012.  Once again, we met our goal--this time we did it two years early!

    An estimated 2300 family members, friends, and coworkers mourned the loss of Missouri State Highway Patrol Sergeant Joseph G. Schuengel at a funeral service on Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Services took place at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, in St. Louis, MO.

  • The Missouri General Assembly recently enacted new legislation affecting vehicle operation, gambling and illegal drugs, and Governor Jay Nixon has signed the legislation into law. Some of the laws contained an emergency clause, which went into effect upon the signing; others went into effect August 28, 2010. The Patrol wishes to make the public aware of these new laws or changes to increase public awareness and education.

  • Patrol Contingent Attends National Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony In Washington, D.C.

  • Missouri State Highway Patrol Corporal Dennis E. Engelhard’s sacrifice was remembered during the National Law Enforcement Memorial Service this past weekend. His name was added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial, in Washington, D.C. Cpl. Engelhard was killed in the line of duty on Christmas Day, December 25, 2009. He was completing a traffic crash investigation on westbound Interstate 44 east of Eureka, MO, when a driver lost control of his vehicle on the ice covered roadway and struck him. Cpl. Engelhard is the 28th member of the Patrol to make the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting the citizens of Missouri.

  • Colonel Ron Replogle Assumes Command As Patrol Superintendent

  • Colonel Ron Replogle was sworn in March 1, 2010, as Missouri State Highway Patrol superintendent by the Honorable Mary Rhodes Russell, Missouri Supreme Court.  Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Replogle as superintendent on February 8, 2010, following Col. James F. Keathley’s announcement that he was retiring after 33 years with the Patrol. The Missouri Senate confirmed Replogle’s appointment on February 18.  As the Patrol’s 21st superintendent, Replogle is responsible for guiding the MSHP’s 2,200 employees in their mission of serving and protecting the people of Missouri.

  • Trooper Receives State Employee Of The Month Award For Fiery Crash Rescue Caught on Dash Camera

    On Wednesday May 27, 2009, Governor Jay Nixon presented the April 2009 State Employee of the Month award to Sergeant Dale O. Jinkens, Troop A, at a ceremony held in the Governor’s Office at the Capitol.  Sergeant Jinkens was named the April 2009 State Employee of the Month for his courageous lifesaving actions on November 22, 2008, involving a serious traffic crash on Interstate 70 in Jackson County.

  • Patrol Offers Traffic Crash Mapping

    The Missouri State Highway Patrol is pleased to offer a new mapping application to its traffic crash records! To see a Missouri map showing where traffic crashes have occurred, click on “Traffic Crash Maps”. The next window offers menus to select from -- including date/time intervals and type of map. Select one of the options provided for each box and choose “Submit”.  For best results, enter a specific troop, county, or city in the search field. Users can search also by “contributing circumstances”, such as alcohol/drug, speed exceeded limit, or following too close. To use this function, after choosing “Submit”, select “Vehicle” from the bottom of the blue box on the right side of the page. Then, use the pull-down menu to choose a contributing circumstance. Users can use geographic information system tools, such as zoom, identify, and pan. There is also a print function available. Questions concerning the mapping feature should be directed to the Patrol’s Traffic Division at (573) 526-6113.

    At 5:40 p.m., December 20, 2008, Mr. Steven Fagan and his eight-year-old son, Tyler, both from Peculiar, MO, were traveling on U.S. Highway 71 in Cass County.  At the intersection of U.S. 71 and Cambridge Road, another vehicle failed to yield. As the vehicle turned onto the West Outer Road of U.S. 71, it struck the Fagan’s truck.

  • Motorized bicycles, Scooters And Mini-MotorCycles Advertised As Toys Require Legal Operation.

    The Missouri State Highway Patrol would like to remind parents it is illegal to operate motorized bicycles on public streets and highways unless the operator has a driver's license. This applies to the newly popular mini-motorcycles also. A motorized bicycle is defined as any two-wheeled or three-wheeled device having an automatic transmission and a motor with cylinder capacity of not more than 50 cubic centimeters.
