The Aircraft Division maintains the airworthiness of the Patrol's fleet and the proficiency of the pilots. The Patrol fleet consists of two twin engine airplanes, eight single engine airplanes, and six helicopters. Eight of nine troops have at least a single engine aircraft assigned at the Troop level and four of nine Troops have helicopters assigned. The two multi-engine aircraft and three of the six helicopters currently in operation were assigned to the Missouri State Highway Patrol by the United States Department of Defense at no cost to the state. The multi-engine aircraft provides the Patrol with the capability to transport personnel efficiently and quickly to locations within the state and, if necessary, out of state. The Patrol also utilizes the Department of Defense helicopters for marijuana eradication and night time call outs. Single engine aircraft are used to assist road personnel with speed and aggressive driving traffic enforcement.
